THE EDGE SCHOOL OF MISSIONS

(THIS SCHOOL IS ON HOLD FOR THE MOMENT- BUT WE STILL OFFER THE PERSONALIZED CURRICULUM ON INDIVIDUAL BASIS)

Through the years, we have hosted numerous ministries and short term missionaries.  Now, the Edge School of Missions has emerged to provide personalized and authentic immersion courses for the aspiring missionary. This syllabus schedule will vary, and will be administered on an individual basis according to the individuals schedule-with prayerful consideration of our Mission advisors.

We believe missions is meant to be the greatest discovery of adventure a person can have. We are developing a Short Term Missions curriculum that is authentic, personalized and affordable.  The following courses below are each 1-2 week intensives, overlapping in various regions and villages- coordinated with local area pastors and leaders. Teachers include missionaries, pastors, local village elders and other experienced teachers.  Certificates of completion will be awarded.  A sample of courses are as follows:

*MISSIONS 101- “What am I doing here in East Africa anyway?”  Foundational understanding as Jesus as the model missionary who left his home in order to serve the world.

*IMMERSION IN THE CROSS CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT-learn to not only survive but thrive in your missions call.  Hear testimonies of how you can turn difficulties into keys for success.

*UNDERSTANDING SCRIPTURE IN A NEAR BIBLICAL ENVIRONMENT- Agriculture interprets and explains many truths and texts throughout the Bible.  This simple hermenuetic (interpreting) course will unlock your understanding of the Bible like none other.  Western culture is wonderful and convenient, yet obscures some of the basic meanings in Scripture- this course provokes understanding of our faith in the Bible lands, culture and nuances of 2000 years ago.

*CROSSING THE FEAR/FAITH THRESHOLD- This course will help you to cross over into effective ministry through persistent faith. Every missionary from David Livingstone to modern contemporaries have faced these forces. Understanding these 2 forces are key to developing the Overcomer within you.

*OVERCOMING RACISM AND TRIBALISM- Understanding the basic divisions in Africa and beyond and what the Bible has to say about it. This course will discuss positive and negative tribalism- and our calling to embrace other distinct communities, tribes, and nations painted beautifully in God’s image.

*THE MASTER KEY OF WORSHIP AND PRAYER- Understand how worship and prayer prepare regions, tribes and nations to receive Jesus and the revelation of Jesus as the Son of God, Son of Man and Saviour of the entire world.  This branch of The Edge School is called the ThroneRiver School of Worship and Prayer.

*COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT- Practical partnership with communities paves the way for credibility of the Gospel/the Church.  In fact, without practical aspects of love, care and outreach it becomes difficult for unbelievers to see who Jesus Christ is.  This course will feature staying with a local family, inside their house/hut and living day to day with the family.  You will participate in all forms of service, cleaning, cooking and discussion of village life/challenges in East Africa.

*GIVING AND RECEIVING- It is a wonderful when we are able to give and bless others less fortunate than ourselves.  However, the NT shows us many examples of ‘unworthy giving/gifts’ and ‘worthy gifts and partnership’ such as to widows, orphans and those who live sacrificially to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.  These issues are often confused and muddied by pressure, guilt, tradition throughout the world.  In this course we will thoroughly exhaust the right times/right ways of giving and discerning true needs from manipulation and pretenders.

*LEADERSHIP FROM WITHIN- The spiritual reality is that you are the only one who can determine your destiny, in partnership with the grace of God. There can be 99 percent pressure and stress around you, and God gives you 100 percent grace to bear and overcome the environment He places you in. In this course you will understand and engage the supernatural nature of Heaven, and study events like Jesus sleeping in the storm (Mark 7:21/8:24) and Moses’ keen spiritual vision that made a former prince leave his earthly palace to become a shepherd in a desert. (Hebrews 12:27) We will study in greater depth how the motives of our hearts determine all things, and how to keep our hearts clean with God and all people. Learn principles that propelled Count Zinzendorf, Francis of Assisi and many other successful missionaries in history.

*DISCERNING AND FULFILLING YOUR DESTINY- The way that we respond to unforeseen events and mistreatment clearly dictates our future. Science has proven that bitterness and unforgiveness leads to physical problems such as cancer and heart problems. This course will confront everything that God wants you to face in your past, and you will learn how to obtain your glorious future that He promised. Many people can’t imagine its as simple as forgiveness and blessing those who curse you- the path of Jesus’ Beautiful Attitudes (the Beattitudes) of Matthew 5-7. God’s plan is that we walk as Overcomers like He did, beautifully overcoming every curse through love, pray, releasing others/forgiveness and blessing those who curse us/have mistreated us. Giving and forgiving are one in the same, stemming from the same motive of full release and generosity. This course will change your life.

*NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL- God’s lives and functions in a world of supernatural glory, miracles, mysteries, revelations as we clearly observe in the Bible. From Genesis to the Book of Revelation we see men and women of God functioning in wonderful ways- naturally supernatural! This course will stir up the spiritual gifts inside of you and more importantly explore our joyful journey with Jesus Christ- a lifestyle of supernatural encounters and enlightment from wonderful Holy Spirit and attended by his great and mighty angels. This course will leave you hungering and thirsting for the realities Jesus lived in, taught and imparted to others throughout the New Testament.

*THE HARDSHIP AREAS OF AFRICA- This course is not for the faint of heart. Many a visitor from the West can hardly handle this un-edited experience of how ‘the rest of the world lives.’ You will visit slums, villages, and areas without water and electricity. You will witness how people struggle to make ends meet, and feel conviction and compassion. You will see children waking up at 4am in order to fill a 10 gallon container of water, one cupful at a time. This course is guaranteed to transform your worldview forever, as it did for us since the start of our journey in Africa. Its a culture-shocker, so be ready to have your mindsets adjusted!
